Just signed up for the 60,000 point Citi ThankYou Premier card

Thanks to an article on Million Mile Secrets, I was just able to apply for and get approved for a new Citi ThankYou Premier Card. I did have to call in for final approval. When I did, because I have several Citibank cards, I had to agree to lower the credit limit on one of my existing accounts in order to be approved for a decent credit limit on the Premier Card. Since I will likely not keep my Citi/AAdvantage Platinum Select MasterCard once the annual fee is due, I had the representative reduce the limit on that card.

The Citi ThankYou Premier Card normally offers a 50,000 point bonus for spending $3,000 in the first three months of card membership. But, right now, Citi is offering an extra 10,000 bonus points for an additional $500 of spend in the same period. This would likely be doable for me at anytime of the year if I concentrated all my spend on a single card, but, with the Georgia Tech football season only five days from kicking off, $3,500 by roughly Thanksgiving should be a piece of cake.

Because I attend all of the Georgia Tech football games, including traveling to road games, I have higher than normal expenses in the fall. Unfortunately, I have already bought my airline tickets for the two "fly-away" games. Also, I took advantage of the IHG PointBreaks promotion to book two hotel nights this fall for a total of 10,000 IHG Rewards points. However, for other stays, I can now use my new Citi ThankYou Premier card. Even for a couple of stays at Starwood properties, I may opt to use the Citi card over my American Express Starwood Preferred Guest Card since the ThankYou bonus points far outweigh the bonus SPG points I would receive using the Amex.

Once I meet my $3,500 spend, I will have earned 110,000 bonus ThankYou points between this card and the Citi Prestige Card I received in the spring. Those bonus points - which transfer to the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer frequent flyer program - will have me off to a good start for my dream trip to Asia in first class on a Singapore Airlines A380!
