SkyTeam, the global airline alliance including Delta Air Lines, Air France, KLM, Korean Air and others, has announced that it will open a branded lounge at Vancouver International Airport. From the Delta News Hub announcement:

SkyTeam, the global airline alliance which Delta is a part of, is taking its customers’ airport experience to new heights by opening a new lounge at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) later this year. The alliance’s first branded facility in North America, it will offer a luxurious environment for First, Business and Elite Plus customers flying on any of the alliance’s nine member airlines currently serving the airport.

I did not realize that SkyTeam operated branded lounges. Of course, that is probably because the Vancouver facility will be the first in North America. I doubt I will be flying business or first into YVR anytime soon, but more lounge options is always good news. They expand lounge capacity at an airport which, at worst, can lessen crowding at other lounges such as American Express Centurion and Priority Pass lounges. I would definitely be more excited about this announcement than if Delta were launching a new SkyClub. Based on my recent visit to the SkyClub in Atlanta's international concourse, I was very underwhelmed. It will be interesting to see if SkyTeam opens additional lounges in North America given the ubiquitousness of Delta.
